Indications
Calcium Lactate is used mainly in the treatment of calcium deficiency which is most frequently occurred in glowing children, lactating and pregnant mothers. It is especially useful to remove symptoms associated with hypocalcemia such as paresthesia, carpopedal spasm, muscle cramps, increased muscle excitability leading to tetany, convulsion, mental changes, dermatitis and ECG changes.

Pharmacology
This preparation has three main actions: It supplements dietary calcium, neutralizes gastric acid in peptic - cures disease and sequesters phosphorus in the intestine to reduce the total body phosphate accumulation in chronic renal future. Calcium Lactate neutralizes gastric acid in peptic ulcer disease and gives supplementary dietary calcium by reducing serum phosphate concentration which ultimately ensures the deposition of calcium phosphate in bone and soft tissue.
Dosage & Administration
Adults including elderly : 1-2 tablets (300 mg-600 mg) daily Children over 3 years : 1 tablet (300 mg) daily Pregnant women : 3-4 tablets (900-1200 mg) daily. Duration: During third trimester and lactation.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated to patient of hypercalcemia associated with sarcoidosis and bone metastasis of neoplastic Process.
Side Effects
Administration of Calcium Lactate by mouth may cause gastrointestinal irritation and constipation but this type of effect is rare.

Precautions & Warnings
It should be cautiously used to patient with impaired renal function, cardiac disease or sarcoidosis.
